I think I need counciling.

I told my mom recently that I have been struggling and so my IPod is pretty secure. But somehow I find pornography. Even if it's really soft porn. I don't want to keep going down this path. I feel like I need to go to counciling. I just don't know if my mom would put me in it. I want to get these struggles out of my life. I'm super done with them, but then again I can't stop going back.

Dear TTT
"Hey, I want to congratulate you for seeking help. A lot of people don't seek it until later.. many years down their life, when their problem becomes a lot worse, in a lot of aspects. First of all, feal free to browse through the blogs, a lot of them hold such good information that.. my jaw drops open every time, it's just so good. Secondly, to enlighten you a little bit, don't go for counciling.. Well, it actually depends, it depends how honest you can be to us and to yourself - tell us your story more fully, about how your problem started, however long however short, talk about how you feel, how life is treating you. Really. Don't hold anything back. It is so the poeple here can better understand, and help, and support, and tailor fit their words of advice to better address your needs."

"I posted my story a little while back. It should be on my page. And Why not counciling? I'm not doubting you or anything, I just want to know why it's good and why it isn't."

"I was in a similar situation but my mom thought I should go to counseling and I wasn't sure about it. It had helped my brother a lot. But I was uneasy about it. I felt like I needed support groups but I knew she'd feel hesitant to let her daughter attend a meeting with men. So we resolved to pray to help know the best course of action. Allow God to prescribe His medicine to you. We don't have all the answers but God does. And you can talk to Him anytime, anyplace, anywhere."

follow God's advice - my thoughts on counseling
"I know a lot of people who have really been helped along the way with counselors; others not so much. Depending on where you live I might be able to recommend one or two that I have heard really good things about. I was declared “cured” by a counselor back in 2002 who supposedly was pretty good with addiction therapy. He told my bishop the same thing and we both laughed about it. Boy, have I proved him wrong! Later I heard from someone that he really helped them. I had a friend who went to a lot of court ordered therapy and he said that most of them were more messed up than he was. That is saying something coming from a former pedophile! He did say that he found two that really helped, the rest he wouldn’t give you two bits for them all. One litmus test that he recommended was that he wouldn’t consider anyone that wouldn’t pray with you. He felt that if they wouldn’t then they considered their training more important than inspiration. If I ever went to another one, it would be Mark Chamberlain. He is in the greater Salt Lake area. He actually grew up on the same street as me, but was a few years younger. When I found out he had written a book my first thought was, “He’s a kid what can he teach me?” He was then in his mid-thirties with a PhD and I was discounting all his experience because he was just younger than me? How stupid! Anyway the book, “Willpower Is Not Enough: Why We Don’t Succeed at Change” was really good. He has also written or contributed to “Wanting More: The Challenge of Enjoyment in the Age of Addiction” and “Confronting Pornography: A Guide to Prevention and Recovery for Individuals, Loved Ones and Leaders”. I have heard from a number of people that he has been really helpful. I think he is with Arch Counseling.

Those are just some ideas to bounce around as you’re considering counseling.

The best advice is what IamStrong said. The Master Physician can prescribe you Perfect Prescription. When I have been sure I should go in one direction He has often pointed me in another direction, but following Him has always been right. He knows what, or who is right for you. As I read on a church marquee: God has unlimited any time minutes”"

"I think I'm going to try it. I have been really down these past couple of days and I know that if I mess up I will get even worse. I just need some positive progression. I need someway to abstain from these horrible traps."

"I need not define your specific problem to help you overcome it. It doesn’t matter what it is. If it violates the commandments of the Lord, it comes from Satan, and the Lord can overcome all of Satan’s influence through your application of righteous principles. Please understand that the way back is not as hard as it seems to you now. Satan wants you to think that it is impossible. That is not true. The Savior gave His life so that you can completely overcome the challenges you face. "
